Overall | Short, petite, and rather plain, Val doesn't look like much. She's got completely average looks that are unremarkable in most settings, and while she may be able to tip into being pretty if she wanted through cosmetics, she's rather happy with her own unremarkableness and refuses to. Her fashion sense is where she chooses to focus her interest; it's a rather eclectic mix of a bunch of different styles and colors.

Overall | She's a pretty reserved and quiet individual. She prefers to keep to herself whenever she can, and she doesn't usually go out of her way to go to that many social events. It doesn't help that she doesn't have many close friends, thus allowing her to stay in her self-imposed solitude. She enjoys that solitude, mostly because it allows her to study in peace. Which she spends quite a large amount of her time doing, for not only her own studies but also for her TA position. 

To hit the last nail to the coffin that hosts her social life, she also tends to be quite serious. While she does have a sense of humor and laughs often, there is a time and a place for that humor and it's not when she wants to get things done. Her own ability to produce humor also makes it hard for her to seem anything but serious, since she knows she isn't funny and makes no effort to try to be.

Overall | Her childhood was strange. Her father's parents had immigrated to the US from Russia and still wanted to maintain those traditions in the family, even if her father and definitely her mother didn't agree. She got splashes of Russian culture, but none of it really stuck other than her barely conversational understanding of the language. What her parents cared about more was her schooling, which she excelled in. She graduated and immediately went into college, where she wasn't sure what she would major in until she met one history professor in particular. She liked him and his teaching, and after getting to talk to him out of the classroom, she slowly became smitten.

She declared her history major, took every class of his she could that counted towards her degree, and graduated. She went for her master's too, and a year in the Wildwood Satellite campus opened, and her teacher moved. So she followed him. She applied for a TA position under him as well and got it. It was about this time she realized her crush had turned into a lot more than a crush, but she never really said anything about it to anyone.
